As MASA’s last User Group meeting in Saumur proved in March, the key to developing world beating training technologies is to cultivate a close and active relationship with your customers. This conduit provides the feedback loop that is vital to continually enhance products and keep them on the leading edge of training technology.
With MASA SWORD now in service in nearly 20 countries, this feedback loop is significant and goes to show why the SWORD constructive training wargame solution continues to be the solution of choice for so many armies and government organizations around the world.
“Customer feedback is so important for us and assists us in designing updates for the product,” explains Enrico Raue, New Markets Development & Sales Manager at MASA. “We always keep the communication channels open through our regional sales managers and field service engineers. It’s part of our culture as a company to listen very closely to our customers.”
At ITEC 2016 and Eurosatory 2016, MASA will be showcasing its latest iteration of SWORD, version 6.5.
This version of SWORD has improvements in the exercise ‘timeline’ application making it possible to make modifications to a created exercise plan in real-time while the simulation exercise is being executed.

MASA Group announced today that David Chouraqui, currently Vice-President of TALIS Group (a majority shareholder of MASA), will be appointed as the company’s new Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, as Juan-Pablo Torres-Padilla steps down from the position. David has been a member of the company’s Board of Directors for more than a year and he has already been involved in defining MASA’s strategic long-term objectives. His appointment will be effective from the next Board meeting, to be held on May 3, 2016.
Educated at Sciences Politiques and the ESCP business school in Paris, Chouraqui started his career at the strategic advisory firm Bossard Consultants. He later moved to Capgemini before becoming an associate at Kea & Partners in 2003, specializing in competitiveness programs, sales performance and customer relations. In 2007, Chouraqui moved to Essilor as Director of E-business, and later became the Chief Information Officer of its European subsidiaries until 2010, when he moved to TALIS to oversee the general management of several of its portfolio companies.
“I am honored to join MASA at such an exciting time. Juan-Pablo has led MASA’s teams to transform the company from a software services provider operating only in the French market, to a global software editor with users in nearly 20 countries. MASA is now renowned for its expertise in Artificial Intelligence-based training and simulation technology for the defense and civil security industries. Under Juan-Pablo’s leadership the company has developed strong relationships with its international customer base, fostering a trusted environment according to MASA’s long-term partnerships philosophy”, said Chouraqui. “My aim is to continue to cultivate these long-term partnerships while expanding into new markets. MASA Group has concluded its second SWORD User Group Meeting that this year was held at the French Army Military School in Saumur (Les écoles militaires de Saumur). The event ran in conjunction with the SIMOPS conference and exhibition, the French Army led forum on operational simulation.
SWORD is MASA’s wargame with automated forces that is used to train command staff from Division down to, on occasion, Company level. SWORD is a highly flexible and scalable training tool that is customizable to reflect national doctrine, tactics, techniques and procedures. SWORD is now in-service with 17 countries around the world as well as a number of defence integrators.
The SWORD User Group Meeting drew over 50 attendees that included current users and potential customers. The aim of the event was to discuss how SWORD is being used and to provide a forum where users and potential users could discuss case studies and national applications. User presentations were followed by demonstrations of SWORD by the French Army’s Tactical Training Centre staff that are based in Saumur. These demonstrations included a high-intensity warfighting exercise and an emergency services scenario based on a series of terrorist attacks in the center of Paris.
Organized by the French Army at the Military School of Saumur, SIMOPS (the « days of OPerational SIMulation ») is a forum dedicated to presenting the simulation systems in use by the French Army.
As well as MASA exhibiting its products at its booth, there will be various demonstrations by Army personnel of the SOULT program, which is powered by MASA SWORD. One platform will be showcasing an Emergency Preparedness scenario, while another will focus on its use for Defense purposes.
MASA Group, leading provider of artificial intelligence simulation solutions to over 15 countries worldwide, will showcase its flagship product MASA SWORD for the first time at MilSim Asia this week.
MASA Group, renowned worldwide for its innovative artificial intelligence-based simulation systems for training, analysis and decision support, will be exhibiting its automated wargame, MASA SWORD, at the inaugural MilSim Asia conference on 19 – 20 January 2016 in Singapore at Marina Bay Sands.
MilSim Asia is a gateway for companies to enter into the region’s rapidly developing defense markets, where training is a crucial aspect for growing armies. In recent years, MASA has focused on increasing its footprint in this key high-growth region; SWORD is already in use by the Bangladesh Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC) and the Singapore Defence Science and Technology Agency, as well as the New Zealand Army.
